News from Mr Grady
17th November 2022
Hello everyone,
Well, the best laid plans…as they say. Obviously this week we’ve had a visit from His Majesty’s Inspectorate, and short of thanking all students, staff and parents for their time, comments and support, there is nothing more I can say until the report is published and shared with everyone in our community in a few weeks’ time.
More importantly though, I had planned to talk about (and as you can see, am going to continue to talk about…) one of the best experiences I have had with our students in quite some time.
I had the privilege of accompanying some of our year 12 Physicists to their orientation and planning day at Cummins for their Industrial Cadets Gold project.
The students were given a presentation from the lead trainer from Cummins, all the way from America, a really detailed exploration of problem solving planning in the engineering world. It was revelatory, as an adult, with a few years in leadership, the experiences and the learning the students were exposed to was of the very highest quality, both in terms of engineering in its purest sense, but also the industrial and business aspects that ensured students could understand the different roles and responsibilities, systems and processes that ensure a global company can be successful, both in what it designs, manufactures and maintains, and how, given all that, it continues to be a developing and profitable business.
I am hoping the students will be able to share their experiences through assemblies and class visits, as this was simply an incredible practical and hands-on day of seeing where our currciulum fits into a real world setting.
Dr Fletcher and the science department have been running this for years now, and so it was a real pleasure to see it in action, a fantastic addition to the curriculum we offer our students.
I look forward too, to seeing how our students cope with the problem they are working on to solve, (a broken generator, on site in South America) and how they manage keeping up with the “Gantt chart” and maintaining focus during the project.
A simply wonderful day, for which I can only thank the Science department and students, who were great company, and as ever, curious, focussed and ambitious.
Stay well and safe everyone,
With all best wishes,
Mr Grady
