Elizabeth Hooton in Year 10 wins national literacy prize
Elizabeth Hooton in Year 10 was incredulous when she found out that she had won UCL and Open Democracy's COVID-19 writing competition with her 800 word story. “ I could not stop crying. I just couldn’t believe it!” Elizabeth who also publishes short stories online under a Pen name, won £200 of book tokens together with mentoring from a UCL lecturer on any subject of my choice.
"This is the inspirational perspective of youth at its best, intimate, outward looking, grounded in experience. It's absolutely beautiful. Hannah Marcus, Assistant Professor of History of Science, Harvard University
