Our Vision for RH6

At Rugby High School Sixth Form, we set heights in our heart.

In Year 12 and 13 we continue to strive for excellence for all, in all its forms. We retain all the values and highest standards of our school, whilst encouraging and enabling greater independence. Our aim as a Sixth Form is to encourage our students to be ambitious and creative thinkers, to face challenges, to work together, to learn to apply and adapt their knowledge and understanding as a co-educational Sixth Form so that they are prepared and excited for the future, whatever it may bring.

Our aspiration is that all our students understand what it is to show compassion and empathy and to take responsibility as brave, independent global citizens. We welcome RHS students and joiners alike, and encourage all our Sixth formers to take on leadership and responsibility, and to get involved in all aspects of school life.

Our Sixth Formers will move on from Rugby High School knowing how to be Resilient, Healthy and Successful, ready for the next stage in their lives and educational journeys.

Our RH6 philosophy is to “stay curious” and we strive to nurture a love of learning so that our students will leave us with a confident voice and open mind, ready to take their place, knowing that their actions have the potential to change the world.

Updated Dress Code for Sixth Form

Our Sixth Form dress code is designed to enable students to have more autonomy, compared to wearing a uniform, whilst promoting a positive and professional image that enables students to be role models for the rest of the school, and feel smart and ready to work.

Our aim is to make the dress code gender and culturally inclusive, practical and affordable. We want to prepare our Sixth Formers for the working world, and as such, adherence to a dress code is good preparation for many professional roles. Looking smart and wearing appropriate clothing is one way in which our students show care, kindness and respect and feel confident. Crucially, they are school leaders and role models for the rest of the school and this needs to be shown through their appearance.

At RH6 we do recognise that many workplaces are increasingly flexible towards dress codes. In keeping with this we have updated our dress code and you can read it here

 Rugby High Sixth Form

Why choose Rugby High School?

"It's the best decision I've made for my education."

“I genuinely love going to my lessons and I'm lucky to have the teachers I have.”

  • One of the best state schools in the UK
  • A Levels in 2024 :
    • 37.7% of grades awarded to students this year were an A* - A Grade.

64.9% of grades awarded to students this year were an A* - B Grade.

Academic Excellence

We are a school that achieves grades well above the national averages at every grade.

The focussed academic challenge and pastoral support, the responsibility and independence offered ensures you leave Rugby High School with all the skill, qualifications and resilience necessary to be successful.

Students normally need 6 grade 6s (or the equivalent) at GCSE.  We expect students to take three full A Levels over the two years in Sixth Form and if you have gained at least 5A*/grade 8s at GCSE, you may do four subjects. The staff at Rugby High are highly committed and experienced in teaching both boys and girls; we have the skills, expertise and track record to assure continued success.

We acknowledge that there is a world of difference between studying for GCSEs and the more focused and academic rigour required of A Level study - we don’t want that to be a leap, but more a sequence of supported steps. So we provide individual study skills support to ensure you complete the full 2 year A Level qualifications with confidence.

Support and Guidance

We offer superb pastoral support and guidance. Key staff in the 6th Form Leadership Team are:

The Head of Sixth Form – Mrs Olga Dermott-Bond: dbondo@rugbyhighschool.co.uk

Assistant Head of Sixth Form - Dr Patrick Carr: p.carr@rugbyhighschool.co.uk

Sixth Form Administrator - Mrs Claire Billington: c.billington@rugbyhighschool.co.uk

Assistant Pastoral Manager - Mrs Louise Thompson: l.thompson@rugbyhighschool.co.uk

Learning Mentor – Lara Hutton: l.hutton@rugbyhighschool.co.uk

The team is also supported by an experienced team of tutors who see students on a daily basis.

There is also a team of experienced PSHE teachers who provide support and information on a wide range of relevant topics; driving, sex education, drugs awareness and global issues. A large part of the guidance for Year 12 and Year 13 is based on their future plans. The school guides students through the UCAS process with advice on personal statements, talks from different universities and information on apprenticeships and gap years. Specialist help is also available for Oxbridge, medicine and veterinary science applications.  In the summer term, the school takes all of Year 12 to the UCAS convention and  a whole day off timetable is dedicated to different career options called Next Steps Day.

We trust that our students will leave Rugby High emotionally and academically ready to move on to the next stage of their lives. We hope that our students will carry with them fond memories of  book character fancy dress day, raising money for local charities, taking part in the Sixth Form Entertainment production or attending various balls, and  that they will realise just how special a place Rugby High School is.

We hope that you will come and join us too.
