Science at Rugby High School

Science Department Vision Statement

In Science we aim to give each student an enthusiasm and love for Biology, Chemistry and Physics which will help them to appreciate the awe and wonder of the world around them. We will equip them with the academic grounding needed to flourish if they choose to continue their Science studies beyond GCSE and A-level in higher education or in pursuing related apprenticeships. We strive to further students' knowledge and understanding of scientific facts, history, methods and applications whilst developing their practical and investigative skills to high standards.

All students are taught balanced science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics and How Science Works) from Years 7 to 9. In Years 10 and 11, students have a choice between GCSE Combined Science or Triple Sciences; GCSE Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

Uptake of Biology, Chemistry and Physics at A Level is very high. Science qualifications can lead to a wide range of career pathways including Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Biochemistry as well as number of vocational courses including Medicine, Veterinary Science, Medical Physics and Engineering.

We have 8 well-equipped Science Laboratories which are supported by 3 prep rooms.

We run a wide range of extra-curricular activities such as trips and guest speakers. In addition we run Bronze, Silver and Gold CREST projects. We have been very successful both regionally and nationally in a number of science competitions including CREST, Big Bang and the Engineering Scheme.
