Upcoming Industrial Action
Strike Action on Wednesday 5th July and Friday 7th July 2023
The National Education Union has declared strike action which will take place on Wednesday 5th July and Friday 7th July. The strike is happening because of a national dispute between the unions and the government and not because of any issues at our school.
In discussion with the trustees of Rugby High School, the school has taken the decision to close the school to all pupils in years 7, 8 and 9 on both Wednesday 5th July and Friday 7th July, but will remain open for years 10 and years 12 on those days. Years 10 and 12 will be expected to be in school. The school has completed a full risk assessment, and cannot safely accommodate, monitor and teach all students as a result of this industrial action.
The school has not taken this decision lightly and as we remain committed to providing a safe and secure environment for pupils, we feel that we would be unable to provide this with the staff we have available.
Where staff are taking part in industrial action, they will not be setting any work for students, and so during those periods of time, students should access a variety of online learning platforms in those periods.
Where staff are not taking part in industrial action, for years 7, 8 and 9 they will be setting work for students via email or FROG and available during the timetabled lesson on Wednesday 5th July and Friday 7th July to reply to email, or discuss work via Microsoft teams if appropriate. Teachers will communicate this with students. Year 10 and 12 will have their lesson in person on site.
The school is sorry that families will have to make alternative arrangements, and that students will experience disruption to their education. We understand that this situation may be frustrating, and ask that all members of our school community continue to treat each other with respect.
