Rugby High Welcomes Year 6 Students for Induction Day

On Wednesday, 10th July we welcomed 120 Year 6 students from schools all over Rugby and beyond!

Students discovered their forms, met their form tutor and learnt their school House this morning and had some icebreaker activities in form time. Then it was off for two mini lessons! In science they tackled lighting a bunsen burner and did some colourful flame tests and in art they created bejewelled bookmarks.

After some delicious break-time muffins, cookies and squash it was time for two more taster lessons! In some of the maths tasters they looked at factorials and worked out the number of ways of arranging the letter AMSE, which stands for the four mini lessons they've tried today! In other Maths mini lessons they had fun playing with probablity, working out which colours were most likely to be chosen as their favourite out of the whole class. In English they were challenged to pair up the beginnings and endings of some famous poems including Keats' "To Autumn" and W H Auden's "Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone."

After lunch they had an enthusiastic session of benchball in the sports hall before activities with their newly allocated House, including trying to put themselves in alphabetical order by surname without speaking at all. Before being reunited with their parents they had a form time session and were given their Summer transition booklets to complete. (If they mislay this they can download a new copy from our website: www.rugbyhighschool.co.uk/joiningyear7)

What a packed day and we hope they all enjoyed their introduction to RHS life. We look forward to seeing them all again on Tuesday 3rd September for their first day!

Thanks to our brilliant prefect team who escorted them around the school and guided them through the day and to the Peer Listeners who joined them at break time to check how their day was going!
